With over 2 million members generating over a billion pageviews a month my main beef with this company is that the experience is online only. While the big social networks have both a desktop and mobile experience I’m not keen on liking them either since they go in and out of fashion faster than a freshman’s wardrobe.

Users may consult the sponsoring registrar’s Whois database to view the registrar’s reported date of expiration for this registration. The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .EDU domains and Registrars. The data contained in GoDaddy.com[whois ][trace ][reverse ip ] , Inc.’s WhoIs database, while believed by the company to be reliable, is provided “as is” with no guarantee or warranties www.mocospace.com regarding its accuracy. Users can actually join on the fly, via SMS. And the company is sponsoring party after party at bars and clubs in San Francisco to get users to try out the product with lots of others at the same time.

Siegel says MocoSpace has a broad user base, but can be broken down into two main groups. The first is a young, urban crowd—”not necessarily urban in the sense that they all live in cities, but they’re into hip hop, emo, goth—a real MTV crowd.” This group grew up with cell phones and spends much more time text-messaging and Web browsing from their phones than they do on the broadband Web, Siegel says. Siegel said since launching MocoSpace in the fall of 2005, the site has been on an upward trajectory, and now has 3.5 million registered users and receives more than 2 billion page views a month, mostly from the U.S. To be www.mocospace.com sure, the company attracts the curious, looking for photos and profiles of strangers and friends while on the go.

MocoSpace.com should keep looking over its shoulder because the competition from safer alternatives MySpace, Facebook, and European startup ZYB just got stiffer. MocoSpace.com is easy to use, though how many people will adopt MocoSpace over the range of other possible services is open to question. It says 76 million people have mobile in the US 6.7 percent of them use mobile chat or dating applications, according to Telephia and M:Metrics, respectively. MocoSpace users can create profiles, upload and share pictures, www.mocospace.com chat, IM, blog and otherwise communicate from within the application. According to a recent report from Openwave on the North American mobile social network market, MocoSpace members spend an average 6.05 minutes per session - much longer than they spend with social network leaders MySpace and Facebook.

MocoSpace is targeting a variety of users and also companies looking for ways to advertise. MocoSpace is a mobile social network. When Arrington says, ?That might just give some runway to new startups focused solely on mobile,? MocoSpace.com uses browser detection to deliver either a PC formatted html page or a WAP2 (xhtml-mp) or WAP1 (wml) one depending on your browser’s capabilities. The browser detection seems reasonably good although I got the PC version on Opera Mini which was only marginally usable.

MocoSpace is a mobile-only social network with two million members and serving one billion pageviews a month (from mobile phones ). When we last wrote about MocoSpace in August , it had half as many members and pageviews. Mocospace will generate an e-mail address for each user for video upload. The photo or video’s caption will be the subject of the e-mail message. Mocospace’s functionality serves the jobs-to-be-done of a previously untapped market: nonconsumers of existing social networking sites designed to be accessed on the PC. A large portion of the US population doesn’t have constant, private access to a PC with a broadband connection, for a variety of reasons that could include on-the-go lifestyles, economic limitations, and/or remote locations.

MocoSpace?s competitors come mainly from 3 distinct areas. These are sites with lots of content and big existing social networks. MocoSpace uses browser detection to deliver either a PC formatted html page or a WAP2 xhtml-mp or WAP1 wml one depending on your browser capabilities. The browser detection seems reasonably good although I got the PC version on Opera Mini which was only marginally usable. MocoSpace and similar sites need to cover the location-based aspect of mobile social software to remain competitive.

MocoSpace is the largest social network designed specifically for mobile phones in the U.S. It also announced another milestone today as it passed the 3 million mark in registered users this month. - can be found www.mocospace.com
